The mission of the MCPL program is to recognize and promote excellence in poetry and a sense of accomplishment and pride among students, artists and individuals who participate in the program. The program benefits the county by building a long-term infrastructure for literary advancements in our schools, our community and our homes.

Poetry knows no limits. It appeals to every one of all ages, all cultures and all professions. Poetry crosses the barriers of handicapping conditions and unites all who experience the power of the words. The MCPL offers a variety of programs that introduce the community to poetry, and provide opportunities for learning and competition. By so doing, MCPL unites students, families, artists and the community with this common literary bond.

Each year we have seen the MCPL program grow, with increased entries, exciting and heart touching poetry, and outstanding celebrity judges. It is our dream to continue this meaningful program, insuring this event will continue for today's poets and the poets who will inspire us in the future.

The MCPL program is funded entirely by donations. It is these donations that enable us to continue to provide our programs and the annual competition. While the MCPL program is run completely by volunteers, it still incurs modest costs. We are turning to our friends and fellow poets to assist us with our endeavors and ask for your support. We realize that in today's economy giving can be difficult and challenging, so we are not asking for large sums, just $10.00. If each person who receives our appeal donates $10.00, the future success of the program is assured.

raised of $6000 goal

We want to thank all of you who supported the MCPL program and the poetry competition during this most challenging and productive year. 2011/2012 promises to be even better with expanded programs and the 14th Annual MCPL Poet Laureate Competition.

We have completed the budget and this year we will need to raise $6,000 to cover the costs.
