MCPL Featured Event
Poets around the world are planning individual events like poetry readings, workshops, parades, concerts, etc. to take place simultaneously on Saturday, September 27, 2013. The core value is social justice. Poets will gather in celebration of poetry, art, and music to promote social, environmental and political change.
MCPL is partnering with Souderton at the Souderton Art Jam on Saturday, September 27 at Souderton Park to highlight the Montgomery and Bucks County Poet Laureates by using words to make positive change in our community and the world... More info here >>

Joanne Leva will read from her new manuscript, entitled Cryptic Orchard, a colorful collection of poems that re-shape and adapt the already compelling biblical story of Adam and Eve to a modern world. The Reporter Article: Poetry is alive and well at Souderton Area High School
Elizabeth Rivers served up poetry with humor and insight to a creative writing class at Souderton Area High School on Monday. Rivers, with PoetryWITS (Writers in the Schools) through the Montgomery County Poet Laureate Program, has been published in various magazines. The Wyncote resident has received several other prizes for her poetry, including the Robert Fraser Open Poetry Competition sponsored by Bucks County Community College. Read the article here >>

MCPL RECEIVES GRANT
The MCPL program is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, through its regional arts funding partnership, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA). State government funding for the arts depends upon an annual appropriation by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. More info here >>

ARCADIA BULLETIN ARTICLE
While poetry is becoming hot in popular culture, Joanne Leva ’84 has been stoking the poetry fires for 20 years. Leva, who earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Arts, is the founder and director of the Montgomery County Poet Laureate Program, a nonprofit organization that promotes the arts by offering programs for local residents. >>

AMBLER LIBRARY STUDENT POETRY READING & CHECK PRESENTATION
MCPL and PoetryWITS began a fundraising effort for The Ambler Library as part of the 2011 Youth Poetry Contest. MCPL Executive Director Joanne Leva is the recipient of the Philadelphia Writers Conference Community Service Award, for her dedication and tireless work on the Philly literary scene, helping other poets and writers, and for her creation and devotion to the Montgomery County Poet Laureate Program.
