2013 CELEBRITY JUDGE

Ethel RackinETHEL RACKIN
Ethel Rackin was born and raised in Philadelphia, and educated at the University of Pennsylvania, Bard College, and Princeton University. Her poetry has appeared in journals such as The American Poetry Review, Colorado Review, Court Green, Brooklyn Review, Evergreen Review, Poetry East, and Volt, and has been set to music and performed by jazz composer, Norman David, with his Eleventet. Rackin's enchanting debut collection of poems, The Forever Notes (Parlor Press, 2012) weaves ancient traditions of love song, incantation, and meditation into a contemporary lyricism, all the while asking what is recoverable within the flux of time. Of the three sections that comprise the book, poet James Richardson had this to say: "Ethel Rackin's wistful and whimsical 'Notes' and 'Pictures' and 'Songs' are brief glances and glancing blows, each so understated and tantalizing that it seems to call for another and another, until without quite realizing it you've read the book straight through." Rackin has taught at Penn State Brandywine, Haverford College, and Bucks County Community College, where she is currently an assistant professor. She lives along the Delaware River with her husband and two dogs.
