Gregory Orr is the author of eight books of poetry, the most recent of which is THE CAGED OWL: NEW AND SELECTED POEMS (Copper Canyon Press, 2002). The year 2002 also saw the publication of his memoir THE BLESSING (Council Oak Books), which Publisher's Weekly included on its list of "50 Best Non-fiction Books of 2002." He also published a book on the nature and purpose of lyric entitled POETRY AS SURVIVAL (University of Georgia Press 2002). He has been the recipient of a Guggenheim and two NEA fellowships in poetry and was recently a Rockefeller Fellow at the Institute for Culture and Violence. He is poetry editor of the Virginia Quarterly Review and has been a professor of English at the University of Virginia for the past 28 years and was the founder and first director of its MFA program. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Charlottesville, Virginia.
